What is the difference between Ford Freestyle and Taurus X?

Body style is the same, are there any differences between the vehicles?

There is really no differences other than the name.
The old bodystyle Taurus sedans and wagons had been discontinued back in 2007.
Ford took the name "Taurus" and gave it to the (newly refreshed design) Five Hundred. And when they did ^that, they also gave the name "Taurus X" to the wagon version (of the Five Hundred) which was previously called the Freestyle.

The Five Hundred and the Freestyle were larger vehicles than the old Taurus sedans and wagons, so there was some general confusion amongst the public, but the marketing geniuses at Ford wanted to keep the name "Taurus" alive. After all , everybody associates the name "Taurus" as one of the most successful vehicles of all time. And the name "Five Hundred" was not as recognizable. The name "Freestyle" was just as unknown, and sounded too much like the (now discontinued) minivan- the Freestar.

A little confusion in the names is common. But the Taurus X has now also been discontinued. Expect to see many similarities in the new 2011 Explorer. The Explorer is being built in Chicago at the same assembly plant as the current Taurus and shares many similarities as the Taurus X
