How to toilet train a one year old schnauzer? I am the 2nd owner. Is there a guarantee method to do this?
I just bought a male one year old schanuzer today from a pet shop and I am the second owner.
I don't know that it's guaranteed but what I did was when I took my dog for a walk I would give her a treat & tell her good pee pee outside & the same with when she would poo outside too. In addition before I went to bed the food & water got picked up, with cats you can leave food & water out all the time but since dogs go outside that's why they're on a feeding schedule. Walk your dog on a schedule, it's like training a child, they have to have a schedule, when you walk him he can't play or go back inside until after he's done his business, pee pee & poo poo first then play time. Also walk at least 15-20 minutes every 3-4 hours at first then as they get older you can walk them just a couple times a day. They can hold their bladder for instance your dog is already a year old so he should be able to hold his bladder up to 13 hours which from what I understand is the maximum they can hold it. 1 digit higher then their age in months. Also as a backup you can get puppy training pads from wal mart or the local pet store & I do recommend you both take a puppy training course PetSmart offers them, if you don't have a PetSmart check your local pet supply store & they can direct you.
I have heard about the crate training & I did try it & didn't like it, this I do. Personal pref though, I've got friends who swear by it & others who feel as I do & don't... it's one of those things you love it or hate it.
