Original Miles
Trying to buy a car but owner says that original miles isn't real, 3,000 miles off...? He telling the truth?
so i'm trying to buy a 04 honda civic and everything seems well but the owner told me that the miles on the odometer, which is 65k, isn't the original but about 3k miles over the original because the original cluster gauge for the car broke from the first owner so it was replaced.
now, he showed me the pinkslip which had the odometer reading of 58k, which was not the actual mileage, when he bought the car back in december of 07 from the first owner. And also, he said after you change the cluster gauge there is no way to set it to exact mileage.
Anyways tell me what you think. Does it seems pretty accurate when he says that it's just 3,000 miles over the actual mileage?

IF the owner can produce documentation that the cluster was replaced when the car had 3000 miles, you are OK. If not, walk away. Every time a shop does repair work on a car, they issue a receipt, and the car's mileage should be on the receipt. If there is no proof of when the cluster was replaced, you could potentially be buying a car that had the cluster replaced at 75,000 miles, and the overall mileage on the car would be 140,000. If it were me, no proof, no sale, period.

Bop for Miles $13.58 Bop for Miles was recorded live in Vienna in 1990, with Mark Murphy fronting a European quintet. The program is full of tunes associated with Miles' first great quintet -- "Bye Bye Blackbird," "All Blues," "Milestones," "Autumn Leaves," "Summertime," "My Ship," etc. As is typical of Murphy, his readings of these tunes are seminal. His attention to color and nuance in a ballad like "Summertime" is just plain canny: he seems to coax the emotion out of the tune from underneath it, from someplace it was hidden away from view. His segue from the aforementioned tune to the slippery bop swing of "Autumn Leaves" is stunning. As Murphy seamlessly changes tempos, keys, and vocal styles without blinking, the poetry gives way to burning scat and improv. The version of "Parker's Mood" here features King Pleasure's original lyrics to the tune, which are extrapolated upon to include read fragments from Jack Kerouac's novel The Subterraneans -- a nod to Murphy's two fine and criminally out of print recorded tributes to the Beat Generation writer. The "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" here includes Joni Mitchell's words, scored for her Mingus album. The bandmembers, while perfectly suited to the material, are not quite up to Murphy's freewheeling, incendiary wildness, but they don't really hinder him either. The album's last track, "Miles," was written by Murphy and recorded in a studio in 1999. With the singer accompanied only by pianist Peter Mihelich, Murphy's biographical tune is moving, wonderfully styled, and even moving in its fierce but tender lyricism and poetry. Yo Miles! $18.38 Like the career of Miles Davis himself -- and, in particular, the part of his career to which this two-disc set pays homage -- this album presents a maddeningly uneven collection of material and performances, ranging from intense and lovely elaborations on Davis' original themes to numbingly tedious and overlong expositions of others. The experiment was the brainchild of experimental guitar hero Henry Kaiser and trumpet player Wadada Leo Smith, who teamed themselves up with bassist Michael Manring, drummer Lukas Ligeti, and a large number of other musicians both famous (John Medeski, Elliott Sharp) and obscure to rework some Miles Davis compositions from his electric jazz-funk period. Kaiser is a guitarist of multi-layered genius who is equally at home producing experimental noise with Fred Frith and accompanying Hawaiian slack-key guitarists and Okinawan folk singers; Smith is a trumpet player with a rich, brilliant tone who has worked with Anthony Davis and Muhal Richard Abrams, among many others. But despite the generally attractive noises they create with their band, too many of the tracks on this album are strung out far too thin; there tends to be far more elaboration than the conceptual content of the tunes can support. "Ife," for example, has a smoldering, minimalist groove and lots of great moments, but 35 minutes of one chord is just too much, no matter how deep the groove is or how intrepid the soloists. On the other hand, "Maiysha," which follows it, is perfectly crafted (and relatively concise at just over eight minutes) and features a scorching Henry Kaiser solo. On the second disc, "Moja-Nine" stands out with its refreshing, punky intensity, and the "Themes from Jack Johnson" medley works, despite its extended length, because the themes vary so widely.
